Description

Tuesday, October 15, 2019 – hosted by Pittsburgh Bereavement Doulas and sponsored in part by Allstate’s Edward Zdobinski and UPMC Magee Womens Hospital. Learn more.

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. During this month many organizations throughout the world organize events for families to memorialize their baby lost to stillbirth, miscarriage, neonatal death and SIDS.

Please join us, together with bereaved families, their friends and loved ones, and all who support our cause, for our first fundraiser and to participate in Light and Unite, celebrating the Wave of Light, a progressive candle lighting all around the world, in memory of our sweet babies. If every participant in different countries lights a candle (or many candles…) at 7pm local time, keeping the candles lit for at least an hour, a “wave of light” will rise and propagate around the world for the whole day!

Wander through the beautiful gardens of Choderwood on the Allegheny River while being offered light fare, sipping wine, listening to soothing music and hanging with some cuddly therapy dogs.

Floating lanterns will be available to personalize. They will be lit at 7pm and set afloat on the ponds of Choderwood.

Jizo Statue

JIZO HAS A SPONSOR!

UPDATE: JIZO WAS SPONSORED BY JAN MALLAK, Lost & Found Support Group facilitator.

Bulbs will be available to plant in a baby garden marked with a Jizo statue. In Buddhism, Jizo is the protector of children and specifically helps children that have died navigate the transition between life and death. There is a tradition in Zen monasteries in Japan of offering Jizo ceremonies to help ease the grief of women who have lost children. In Japan, and now the USA, Jizo has a special relationship with those who have lost children.
(We honor all faiths and do not adhere to one specific faith.)
