Our certified childbirth educators and lactation consultant offer a full range of classes for new and/or expectant parents.
Prepared Childbirth Class
This is a five-week class designed for expectant parents in their last few months of pregnancy. It is designed to help prepare them for the birth of their child. In addition to breathing and relaxation techniques, parents-to-be will learn about signs of labor, delivery process, types of deliveries, the role of the partner as well as Postpartum Care. They will also be given the opportunity to tour the Maternity Department. This class is taught by RNs who are also Certified Childbirth Educators.
Maternity Department Tours
A tour of the Maternity Department is included with the Prepared Childbirth Class. If you are not planning to take the class and would like a tour, please call (724) 223-3220 to check for availability. Since census on the Maternity Department fluctuates, we cannot guarantee a specific date and time so it is best to call on the day you would like to come in. Sunday afternoons are typically the best time but tours can be arranged any day as long as staff are available.
Baby Care Class
This three-hour class is offered most months on a Monday evening. This fun class teaches expectant parents how to care for their newborn. Most classes also enjoy a visit from one of our pediatricians, who will be available to answer questions. Expectant parents will also get the opportunity to talk to a police officer about the importance of car seat safety. This class is taught by one of our childbirth educators.
Breastfeeding Class
This two-week class is offered every month except May and December for expectant parents. Our Certified Lactation Consultant will teach you everything you need to know about how to successfully breastfeed your newborn. Yes, partners are also expected to attend, to discover the many ways they can support and bond with their breastfed newborns.
There is a fee for these classes, but many insurance plans will reimburse you for some or all of the cost of the class. Check with your plan to verify coverage.
